As far as work, school, home management, kid’s schedules, marriage, and everything else in between, it’s a tough job we have managing our lives.
We no longer get one task or project finished before there’s something else that needs our time and attention.
We all wear many hats. You may be a mom, wife, caregiver, business owner, and a host of other things but we still need to get through the day. It may be a struggle but I know you’re doing the best you can.

But, what if there was an online tool that could help you manage your life so you didn’t have to run through life feeling so frantic?
There is such a thing and it’s called Trello.
Now let’s begin on how Trello organizes my life and how it can do the same for you.

Trello Organization
First, let me say that Trello organizes with boards, lists, and cards. The board is your project, task list, or idea. Inside the board, you have lists that are organized by cards. And on the back of these cards are how you can get crazy with the organization. This is why I love Trello so much.
If you’d like more information as to what each item is on the back of a card, please read my in-depth post I wrote up about Trello.
How Trello Organizes My Week and Month
Trello organizes many aspects of my weekly and monthly tasks.
One of my favorite boards is my recipe board that organizes all of my recipes. In this board, I use the lists for the categories and the cards for each of my recipes. I also add labels as to where I got the recipes. And I add a comment as to our thoughts on the recipe after I make it the first time.
Adding a comment is my favorite part of my recipe board. We like getting meals from Hello Fresh (and making them again on our own) and it’s hard to remember what we thought of a meal that I made a few months ago. Now, I just add a comment and it doesn’t matter how much time goes by until I make this recipe again if I want to.
Here are some other boards that I’ve created that help me keep my weeks and months organized. I primarily use Trello to organize my business but I’ll also mention other ways you can use Trello to organize your personal schedule.
- Blog Checklist
- Blogging Stats
- Editorial Calendar
- Pinterest Tracker (for all of my pins)
- Any projects that I’m working on
- Kid’s schoolwork (when school is in session)
- Recipe Organizer
- Cleaning Schedule
Here are some other ways to organize your schedule (I use my planner to keep my weeks organized so I don’t use Trello with any of these but you certainly could).
- Daily/weekly schedule
- To-do list
- Shopping lists
How Trello Organizes My Life
Now, when it comes to getting my life organized, I primarily use Trello. And I’ll get into all of the different boards that I use to allow this.
I do want to add that if I want to attach any blog post or website to a Trello card, I can easily do this by clicking on the URL and dragging it into a card. The URL will populate into the card and most of the time, if there’s a picture associated with what you are attaching, that will populate as well. Just highlight the URL, drag it, and drop it into a card. It’s that easy.
Also, if you want to attach a physical document that you got in the mail or from school or work, just snap a picture of it and upload it into Trello. This way, you can minimize the papers in your home. Instead of holding onto papers on your fridge or somewhere else in your home, take a picture with your smartphone and get it into Trello and onto a board of your choosing. I like to have an important board and a school info board so if there’s something I need to hold onto to reference later, I’ll attach it to one of these boards.
And here are my Trello boards that keep my life organized.
- Movies to watch
- Important School info
- Packing lists
- Quarterly Goals
- Trip/ vacation planner
- Online Content
- Brainstorming Ideas
- Brain Dumping
- Gift Ideas
- Important papers I need to keep for reference
- Saved Content Reading List (emails that I want to read but don’t have the time…see below)
- Quotes I like
- Things to sell
- Products I like
- Camping Related

Forwarding Emails to a Board
One clever trick I l recently learned about is if you want to save any emails to a Trello board, you can email them to that specific board to read later. For example, I like to use this when I’m short on time but I’d really like to read an email, I’ll just forward it to my Trello board. I labeled this board Saved Content Reading List.
To set this up, you’ll notice when you’re on a board, you’ll see “show menu’ on the right side of your screen, select this. Then select “more” and then select “Email-to-board Settings”. From here, select “Email me this address”. You’ll receive an email where you’ll need to follow those instructions in the email to complete this setup.
Now, next time you find an email that you just don’t have the time to read, forward it to the board you just set up. When you have some time to spare, open up this board and select something to read.
I created two lists on my board, and labeled them Inbox and Save for Reference. I set up all forwarded emails to go into the Inbox and if there’s something, after I’ve read it, I want to save, I’ll move it to the Save for Reference list. Otherwise, if I don’t want to save it, I just delete it from Trello once it’s read.
Using this method will help keep your email inbox more organized. But don’t forget about your Trello board. Keep that manageable and under control too.
Setting Up An Account
All in all, I hope you will give Trello a try if you need more organization in your life. Any project or idea you want to collect info for or plan out the steps to take, Trello is the one.
Trello for me is somewhat of a digital filing cabinet and a collaboration of ideas. It keeps me organized knowing I can access my recipes from anywhere in under a minute and when I’m shopping for a gift, I have my Trello board to give me those ideas.
You can set up an account easily by going here. And it’s free too to get all of these benefits I’ve mentioned. There is a paid version but I’ve found I can do everything I want with the free version.
There’s also an app so don’t forget to download it.
The choice is yours but I know you’re going to love Trello once you start using it. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose, and instead, you may find the best organizational tool out there.
Tell me, have you used Trello before, or is this the first time you’re hearing about it?
