I like to plan for things. Plan my meals for the week. Plan my cleaning schedule to tell me what to clean each day. A plan that tells me my must do’s for the week and any arrangements and commitments I have.
So much of my life is planned out. It gives me the structure to know what comes next. There’s less time wasted trying to figure out what to do next.
But what if we like to plan everything out but we aren’t so good at doing the work. This can happen. We set out a plan for the day but end up wasting half the day doing mindless things and not finishing everything or anything we set ourselves up for.

Unfortunately, planning only works when you do the work. A to-do list isn’t going to complete itself. Errands aren’t going to be run if you don’t do them. Home-cooked meals won’t be served if no one makes them.
If this sounds like you and you think planning is fun and enjoyable. But when it comes time to actually doing the work, you fail. Ask yourself why you fail.
Have a Planner
Is it the planning system you have in place that is failing you? Or is it that there isn’t a planner to begin with? Are you struggling with everything going on in your life because everything that needs to get done is in your head or strewn all around your home on post-it notes?
Finding the right planner might be all you need to succeed in accomplishing everything you want to in a day.
Your To-Do List
Maybe you have a planner. But maybe you are putting too much on the to-do list that it overwhelms you before you even start. This could set you up for failure. It might seem too daunting that the best thing for you to do is nothing because you don’t know where to start and know you’ll never get everything done. Don’t let this happen to you.
Instead, prioritize your to-do list. Start by figuring out what the top 3 – 5 things are that you must get done that day (I call these my Must Do’s). Work that list and once you’re done with those (if you finish them), move to the next 3 – 5 things (I call these my Should Do’s) on your list. Lastly, if you get through your Must Do’s and your Should Do’s, do the last 3 – 5 things are your list (this is called my Would Like to Do’s).
By prioritizing your to-do list, you’ll always know what the most important things are and this keeps you focused.

Lack Motivation
Maybe you’ve taken the time to write all of your must do’s in your planner but you just lack the motivation to do them when it’s time to. You’d rather be doing anything else than your to-do list.
Unfortunately, just because you don’t feel like doing it won’t make the task happen. If this happens to you, ask yourself why you lack the motivation.
Do you have goals in your life? A lot of times, when we set goals for ourselves, we know what we need to get done each day and this helps push us further. If it’s motivation that has you struggling, take a look at your life, and set some goals for yourself. And most times, when we’ve set goals for ourselves, using a planner can help remind us of those goals which will keep us pushing forward.
I have found the Living Well Planner to be the absolute best planner to plan out my goals and to see them through. With sections each month that focuses on my top 3 goals, allows me to have the constant reminder of what I’m shooting for.
Get Organized
