I like to keep organized but I prefer to have my organizing look pretty instead of dull. So, when I was on a hunt to organize my endless stream of paper clutter, I decided on a system that uses a 3-tier organizer. This organizer has a mesh look so you can see the folders right through it. I did not want to put plain-looking file folders in it since I keep it in my kitchen for anyone to see. And since I’d be looking at it every day, I wanted the folders to look pretty.
I looked online and found some pretty file folder that I could use but I didn’t really want to spend money for them since I had a bunch of plain file folders already in my home. I decided to get creative and use those plain folders to make them look pretty and save some money.
Making Pretty File Folders
I had picked up some really pretty scrapbook paper on sale and realized they would work perfectly for improving the plain folders. I used a 12 X 12 piece of paper, measured the size I would need to fit the front of the folder and cut the paper. Then I used a glue stick to adhere it together.

You can see from the picture, that I used a different print on the inside of the folder. The paper I used had a chevron look on the one side and the flowers on the other. I liked the look together but didn’t want to use a whole other sheet for the inside. Instead, I wanted to use what I had remaining from doing the cover. When I tried that option I realized that it covered enough of the inside that you couldn’t tell that the inside wasn’t finished.
Here, you can see how it looks on the inside. It only comes down a few inches but it’s enough that when the folder is closed, you don’t notice it. For this part, just measure and cut it to fit the inside at the top of the folder.
Supplies Needed for File Folders
Once you’re done, sit back and enjoy your beautiful folder. Each time you look at it, you will find joy knowing that you saved some money and made a pretty folder yourself. This process is very easy to do. All you need to start is:
A plain-looking folder
12 x 12 scrapbook paper
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil
Glue stick
…
It’s fun to make these and not at all difficult. If you decide to try this, I’d love for you to share your pictures in the comments section. Thanks for stopping by and reading this!
